Long time lurker....

From what I can gather the installer gets deleted after installation. It's a download or a preloaded USB drive from the Apple store.

I believe that if I reinstalled the OS from the recovery partition it will put Lion Server back on so I would need to download it from the app store or buy the USB drive, but either way I'm paying for something I already own. Thanks for the heads up on a potential way around this though. A friend has a regular Lion installer package from the app store, I assume that since I legally own Lion I could use this installer to setup my Mini with no server functions?

I read somewhere that someone managed to get Snow Leopard on their i7 server but it was buggy and ran at around 1/3 the power.

Shame about Snow Leopard...i would prefer that OS until further down the road. Still torn between this great little server or a Macbook pro.

Fwiw there are plenty of guides on how to make a lion install disc out of the downloaded media. Essentially you cancel the installation, which does start automatically after the download finishes. The find the install app. Open and copy a folder inside it to a disc.

Anybody with this combination? I've been running a Mac Mini for a couple of years now, and while it's been great, I'm feeling the need for more power. I've carefully read thru this thread and I think it'll be a better value than a used '09 Mac Pro. It'll take up less space too. Will the SSD really be that much of a better system drive? Also, has anybody squeezed more the 8 gb of ram in? I've read that OWC has 12 and 16 sized configurations...

There have been a couple of people on the daw-mac list who have reported success with this combo, if I recall correctly. I'll go over the posts to make sure. I'm thinking about it myself.

Yeah, I've looked all over and haven't seen anything negative. I'm just wondering if anyone's on PT 10 yet?

You're studio build-out looks spectacular, btw! Still have the Raindirk? I used to have a Helios...

Done more research and it seems I can't use the generic Lion installer, I have to use one specific to a 2011 Mac Mini. Seems my only option is to run the recovery assistant but I can only assume it would reinstall the server version anyway...

Have tried a few other things to get this slow edit/transport window loading to speed up. Disabled spotlight indexing, disabled all networking, preferences, permissions, log files, SMC, PRAM, removed all plugins, reinstalled PT ect ect but no change. Annoying, but I can live with it and once loaded it's rock solid...

You may have missed my posts but I'm on PT10 on a Mac Mini Lion Server i7, all good except for slow session loading.

Just checked out your credits, you've worked with Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Blonde Redhead and Helmet! Holy crap! I remember the first time I heard The Diamond Sea when I was about 9 and it blew my mind, still one of my favorite songs ever.

someone in another thread speaks of this slow opening of sessions on new iMac with lion (different configuration)
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=310756

Crizdee... advised this.
Try holding shift whilst opening a session! This will disable all plugins, see how quickly it loads now.

Its the last post in the thread.
It may or may not be relevant.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll have to back-track and read your posts more closely. Please keep us informed. On another note, I notice you're in NZ. Ever heard of a band called the Neo-Kalashnikovs?
