Default Firewire\'s CPU taxing on a G4 400

Hi guys. I have a G4/400 and I was thinking of getting a firewire interface since now I have a Digi 001. I see Digi doesn't recommend my machine for their firewire devices.
Is there any way to know how much processing power will I loose by going firewire on this machine?
TIA, Andrés
