Can't uninstall Toontrack SD2
Good day
I am having serious issues with Toontrack Super Drummer 2 (PT Crashes). Because of that I have tried to uninstall SD2, but it's no way. I couldn't have any help from Toontrack. It's like they no have an uninstaller for SD2. My question is, can I take the SD2 from the application folder and simply send it to the trash? Thanks so much. iMac 2019 3.7 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1 Pro Tools Version 2022.12.0 Focusrite Scarlett 6/6 |

Re: Can't uninstall Toontrack SD2
If it's causing crashes in PT, all you should need to do is remove the Superior Drummer AAX plugin(s) from the Plug-Ins folder at /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins
Unless you're running it as a standalone app and routing audio and MIDI to it somehow.

Re: Can't uninstall Toontrack SD2
Kerry has already got you going but I'm not following what you are talking about with SD2 uninstalls and Toontrack support. I'm on the latest SD3 and EZ3 and Toontrack Product Manager (Unlike Avid Link I will use that) still offers those old installers (and therefore uninstallers) for SD2 and EZ2 as does their support website.

Also, SD2 is now over 8 years old. I'd highly recommend updating to V3. Not only will it be less prone to crashes but it's far *superior* to V2 in just about every way. To uninstall (though I don't know why you would) you can download the latest version of the SD2 installer. Inside that DMG file will be an uninstaller. Or if you're using the Product Manager there's an uninstall feature. |

Re: Can't uninstall Toontrack SD2
Thanks to everyone. I really appreciate your help.
I have downloaded the latest version of the installer. But neither there nor in the product manager do they have an uninstaller for SD2. It seems that Toontrack has completely abandoned SD2 I actually use SD2 too little to buy a new version of Super Drummer. I just want to remove SD to avoid all the problems it causes me. That's it. Thank you |

Returning to my first question, can I take the SD2 from the application folder and simply send it to the trash?
Thanks |

Re: Can't uninstall Toontrack SD2
That will not stop Pro Tools from loading it. PT loads the AAX plugin version of SD2, located where I described earlier. If you trash it from the Applications folder, you're only deleting the standalone version of SD2

Re: Can't uninstall Toontrack SD2
... and you are only deleting whatever is in the .app bundle. There are samples, and preferences settings and other stuff on the system.
Can you delete the standalone .app? Sure, you can do most anything you want. Might the other stuff left installed cause some future problem... unlikely to but occasionally it might. Nobody here can know or say for sure. The first thing I would have tried is the uninstaller. I'm not sure exactly what installer you are downloading or looking at. But it turns out you will likely have problems there, the uninstaller in Superior_Drummer_MAC_244.dmg for example won't run on recent macOS, certainly won't run on the Sequoia developer beta the Mac in front of me is running. I had a quick poke around inside the installer and there is some of crufty stuff there like seemingly old PowerPC support in the installer. This stuff is all pretty old. If you want to worry about being as clean here as possible... You could boot your Mac back on an old macOS version and run the old SD2 uninstaller. -or- You can try to find all the files that have been installed and remove them but if you make a mistake there you might cause more harm than good. Especially if you already have other Toontrack software installed. If you only have SD 2 installed then you are less likely to cause problems. You can scan the current system tying to find stuff that looks like SD2 files and manually delete them. e.g. In Terminal ($ is the command prompt, it will be different in your shell). $ sudo find / -iname superior\* -o -iname toontrack\* -print But that only finds files and directories with toontrack or superior in their names. Or for more technical inclined folks you can look inside the installer with tools like Suspicions Package and see what files are being is that install and what scripts might be creating additional files. A quick look there shows the plugin folders for .aaxplugin, .dpm, .vst, and /Users/Shared/Toontrack/ /Library/Documentation/Toontrack/ /Library/Application Suppoer/Toontrack/ /Users/Shared/Toontrack/Preferences/ /Users/Shared/Toontrack/ ~/Library/Application Support/Toontrack ~/Library/Audio/Presets/Toontrack You should look in those locations for SD2 related stuff. I may have missed other stuff. Or you can just not worry about stuff and hopefully it will just be OK. It is maybe just best to avoid getting into corners like this, uninstall old incompatible software before upgrading macOS or even better follow the advice that many of us provide on DUC and don't do major macOS upgrades in-situ, instead for major upgrades do full new clean installs and then reinstall any software, plugins and drivers. I have to say that your disinterest in V2 shouldn't be a draw against V3. They're VERY different. V3 is at the pinnacle of what's being done with sampled drums in 2024. I'd *highly* suggest looking at product demos. The Tap 2 Find feature alone is worth the price of admission, but it goes way beyond that. V3 will hold all of your V2 libraries, btw. I understand that that doesn't fix your crashes but the fix has been mentioned several times above. Drag the plugin file out of your plugins folder. |

Re: Can't uninstall Toontrack SD2
That^^^, but before you write off SD3, consider a couple of cool features:
1-it can run all the SDX and EZX libraries(handy if you own any) 2-it makes one heckuva good drum replacement plugin tool(easily as good as Drumagog or Slate Trigger IMHO)
