Default IRQ/Performance Questions

Hey Guys
WinXP has put my 001 card in IRQ 15 (on its own), and my promise card in IRQ 14 (on its own). There are some earlier IRQs free but the recording comp is 30 mins drive from me at the moment so I can't give a full list at this stage. Is this OK? At this stage I think I'm getting a slight drop in performance from 5.1.1 on Win98.

I've got an AthlonXp 1600 on a Gigabyte GA-7ZXE mobo. 512MB PC-133 RAM.
System drive is on onboard IDE1, CDRW is on onboard IDE2, and 2 audios drives are on one Promise port each.
PCI cards.....
Slot 1 - Empty
Slot 2 - Yamaha sound card
Slot 3 - Promise ATA100 IDE controller
Slot 4 - DIGI001
Slot 5 - Firewire card
Slot 6 - Empty

There is also no option the enable DMA on the Promise card drives. Is this normal?

Are there any WinXP tweaks I need to do?

All suggestions greatfully received.

Thanks
Mark

Aussie169,
One of the beta testers told me there IS a very slight drop in performance in this new system (on the Davec test, for example, maybe a few less Aux. tracks than before). I do not know about the best IRQ positions yet.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Aussie,

My Gigabyte GA7DXR+ with XP set the IRQ's the same way. I lost one track with XP on the DaveC test... My system seems very stable. The only hiccup is when I first start digi somethimes it doesn't start, I just see a flicker the I have to restart the program. The only minor problem so far...

Any of the beta testers have an answer to the IRQ question?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I've noticed the same thing with the hiccup on starting PT. As for the IRQs, in order to manage them yourself, you've got to change ACPI (control panel>system>hardware>device maganer>computer)to work in standard PC mode. Check this post XP OPTIMIZATION THREAD and look for #2 in the first post.

(I gained 4 tracks in Davec, from 15 to 19 on my Tbird 750).

Mark,
I need to research the hardware priority given to these new IRQs. When you get a chance, if you could list what you're getting it would help.

I have a lot of experience with another application under both XP and ME - Seti@Home. I've completed nearly 11,000 Seti@Home work units. I can tell you that the very same machine, when converted from Win ME to Win XP Home, dropped it's Seti@Home performance, on the average, buy about 4%. If PTLE had a similar drop, that could account for 1-2 tracks.
