Default Inverted Piano Roll in 2021.6 ::FACEPALM::

I'm not sure exactly when this happened, I don't recall it being like this ever except with certain colors but at least in 2021.6 the dark keys on the piano roll are light/colored in the background and the white keys are black/grey

and it's not just dark mode btw

There is a sweet spot in the "Background" shade slider that gets it... better. It's still a problem if you only open one track in the MIDI Editor. The highlighted area is inverted. I always have a blank MIDI track now that I can also select when I'm editing MIDI from another track, and that "normalizes" the black key/white key balance.

But yeah, big issue Avid, for those of us who use MIDI regularly. Just give the MIDI Editor separate color controls.

It looks fine on my rig. I suggest 2 things might be worth a try:
1-update graphics driver
2-mess with brightness settings on your monitor(not too long ago, Melodyne acted as you describe where every note lane looked exactly the same. Adjusting the monitor brightness solved the issue for me)

Dave, I'm on a Mac. The Graphics drivers are built-in and the Brightness is pretty optimal. It's not that.

Nate, that's odd. I am posting some Screenshots here, to illustrate the things that I perceive as problems with this piano-roll color inversion, and how I've been dealing with it for now. It definitely feels like a bit of whack-a-mole tho.

It looks kinda like Logic. What's the problem?

In all seriousness, is this dark mode? I'm still on 2019.

oh hey kerry didn't realize that was you haha

yeah so you're actually onto something with the color palette, timeline brightness inverts the piano roll depending on which side of 50 you're on

unfortunately bringing background brightness down so much make contexts windows SO dark! at least on my machine with my card/monitors. i'll just have to live with it for now

Does this only happen in "dark" mode? Does switching to "classic" mode fix the issue?

As some of you know I'm one of those that did major tweaks to the ptcolors.txt file and sent the file out to people here so I'm very interested in this situation. I have four different versions of PT on my machine (2019.6 2020.12, 2021,3,1 and 2021.6). PT 2020.12 looked okay here. 2021.3.1 has the problem.

There's a tweak I did that I don't think everyone has and that was to have the lines in the MIDI editor correspond to the key color. That is the white keys would have lines in the editor that were light and the black keys would have lines that were dark color. And it was fairly distinct. Something has happened in 2021.6 that's messed with this and as someone said it also depends on track color to some extent.

Give me some time to see if I can figure out what has to change. It'll be a couple of days.
