82% CPU Usage with No File Open

Something has happened in my system that has Pro Tools showing an 82% System Usage when there's no file open. When I do open the current session I'm working on, the VU meters show no activity when a track is armed, yet when I created a test session, with only one track, I do get input and activity. Not quite sure what to do with this one. See attached, and this is with no session opened.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not totally unusual about this. Do standard troubleshooting. Esp. trash prefs, move out plugins. Always suspect plugins. Yes they are half alive and able to do bad things even without a session.

Standard troubleshooting under "help us help you" up the top of each DUC web page, you are wasting time asking questions without working down that list.

And anything changed? OS update that was not disabled?

Good advice above, but more than that, don't stress over the meters if nothing is wrong with actual function. IOW, if sessions open and run fine, don't worry about erroneous system metering(its not exactly accurate and maybe there's a bug with the usage meter). Now if sessions are running badly, then by all means, work to solve the issues

What session did you have open before you created the blank session? I think PT reserves some components even from closed sessions.
