PT9 HD, 002R and 96k
Hello All,
I have a few Digi 002R units laying around. I wanted to get a few licenses of PT HD9 and some intel Mac Pro systems and set up some inexpensive audio QC bays. I need to be able to work to time code and the OMF/AAF compatibility is why I am looking into the HD versus just LE. In addition, I need to be able to handle 24 tracks at 96k without down sampling. Is this possible with the older 002R units? Randall Smith

Re: PT9 HD, 002R and 96k
First of all the 002R's will not work with PT HD9. Someone with more video knowledge will probably chime in, but with PT9 (non HD) I have had no issues importing OMF files.

Thanks. Will it handle the 96k Sessions?

Re: PT9 HD, 002R and 96k
Yup, the 002R supports 96k input using the analog inputs only. If you try and tie in an external AD Converter via ADAT optical, it will only go up to 48k. However, that's only if you are using the interface to record new material. If you are importing sessions with files that are already 96k, then you will be good to go. And remember that Pro Tools 9 can now run standalone as well. You no longer HAVE to have a Avid/Digidesign interface connected to it in order for it to work. You could actually edit those clips with headphones plugged right into the computer with Pro Tools outputs set to the computer headphone jack, or you could use other brand interfaces as well.
Remember, that for each station you are looking to outfit, you will need an iLok. PT 9 authorizations live on the iLok, You will need to use the serial numbers on the back of the 002R's you have to upgrade to PT 9 at the discounted $249. Notice how I'm not calling it PT9 LE, because there is no more PT LE. It's just Pro Tools 9 and Pro Tools 9 HD. PT 9 is a real game changer for a lot of people. Very happy with this version.

Re: PT9 HD, 002R and 96k
I'm using the S/PDIF ins on my 002R to get 96 in from a UA 1292...
From the "Getting Started" guide... "Digi 002 and Digi 002 Rack support consumer mode S/PDIF output format (IEC-958 Type 2) at sample rates of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz, and professional mode S/PDIF output format (IEC-958 Type 1) at sample rates of 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz. For information on which S/PDIF formats are supported by your S/PDIF-compatible gear, refer to the manufacturer’s documentation. "
