Default Dual Monitor card+ Video Playback card?

Hello I am looking to add a Dual Monitor AGP card to our new G4 733. Has anyone has success using the Jeronimo with a Aurora Fuse or Mirro DC30+ card playing back 64 tracks?

Please advise? I know that the Geronimo is the only approved Digidesign dual video card.
Has anyone had success with this? Has anyone had success with a diffrent AGP dual card and high track count?

Thanks for the heads up regarding Appian + DVD useage.
In terms of Appian/Protools functionality, how are things working? Are you using a video capture card for NTSC playback or just strictly working with audio (no picture)?

just so you kmow before hand(i didn't).
once you install a j 2000 card you will not be able to use your dvd drive for dvd movies.it will still work for cd audio but no dvd video.
i spoke to appian and they say it is an apple/ati thing. whatta ya gonna do.(there are workarounds but you need a pci slot)

Hey cool, I need to know too. I'm currently running a J2000 and am thinking of getting the DC30+ also. Does this work? Guess it should, it's in the supported hardware list...

hey guys,
i get my video from our avid guys as quicktime's so i don't use a dc30 card.
the appian card works fine for what i do. i keep video on the second monitor along with the mix window and the edit window on monitor 1.keep your monitor set to millions(as per appian specs) and you should be fine.

Zeeman,

I noticed that it's very difficult to work with QT "natively" like that. I had a QT video on one monitor of the J2000 and everything was all gummed up & slow. I have a G4 400 with 320meg Ram.
Is more RAM the ticket to speeding this up?

I think I read that getting a capture card can speed things up, is this true? The video would then come out of the DC30.

Thanks,
Alan

for me it's not that bad. i'm only getting :30 spots. i keep the track window set to blocks instead of frames. also i'm only viewing 320x240 quicktimes, kinda small but works for me.things move along rather nice. i think what helps in my sit. is that the avid guys give me a highly compressed quicktime. it looks amazing and compared to what i used to do(i made the qt's from mpgs in premiere)it runs a lot smoother.
hope this helps.

I'm using an Appian Jeronimo 2000 and an Aurora Fuse in my G4-450. The fuse card definitley takes a load off the computer when I send the quicktime through the video outs of the fuse card to a monitor instead of running the quicktime on one of the computer screens. I can see an immediate difference in video performance. Meters (on both screens) are smoother and less jerky. And the video playback is more consistent too. The control strip menu allows you to easily select between how you want to view the quicktime. (Vidoe/Computer/Video & Computer) Hope that helps.
