simple (stupid?) question - 2bus?

Enlighten me please...
I often see references to the "2 bus". What is the exact definition of the "2 bus"?
(I remixed a session once that had designated a "2mix" bus. I took that to mean "to the mix channel". Is this a "2 bus"?)
