Default add HD Native PCIexpress card to my Macbook 14 M1Pro

Hi guys,

what do I need to get an older Native HD(x) pci card connected to my new Macbook M1Pro laptop.
I have already :
* thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter (if I need this)
* HD(x) native pcie card + Avid HD interface
* ProTools Ultimate (2022.7)

I guess I need a thunderbolt PCI-e chassis. But which one will work ?

thanks for your help

Philippe

What exactly do you mean? There is no such thing as a "HD(x)" card.

HD Native PCIe card?

or

HDX PCIe card?

or

HD PCI-x card? <- this cannot run in a thunderbolt chassis.

Also can't run Pro Tools Ultimate.

Sonnet is the lead company for a chassis for HDX cards (not the only one but the largest seller)
Here's their compatibility list

Indeed, this is a confusing post(or confused poster). There are many cards out there, so clarification is needed for help(and HD(x) does not exist).

HD cards(either PCIe or PCIx) are old and only work on older OS and Pro Tools HD software that is version 10.x and older. Those cards are not likely to work in any Thunderbolt chassis or with any recent Mac(forget about M1 and newer).

HDX cards(PCIe only) work with Pro Tools HD(version 9 and newer) or Pro Tools Ultimate. Pick a compatible TB chassis and it should work(with appropriate PT version, OS version and digilink license(depending on PT version). An M1Pro is going to require the latest Pro Tools software(Ultimate or Flex).

HDN card(aka HD/Native); these are also PCIe only(or the factory Thunderbolt version). The PCIe card should also work with the same requirements as the HDX cards.

Hope that helps the OP understand

Aha! That SHOULD work in a compatible TB chassis(hopefully, someone else knows which are compatible).

You purchase a compatible Sonnet chassis. BScout already gave where you find this.

Follow the Sonnet instructions carefully, *if* there is a "PCIe 2" or "HDX" switch on the motherboard mentioned in the instructions for that chassis you do what the instructions say, yes if they only mention HDX for that switch do the same for HD Native. Not all compatible chassis have this.

You follow the instructions at https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...ation-on-macOS
