Well you can Protools 9 (500 street) + CPTK (1300 street) = Protools 9 HD (1800 Street)

Hi,

That doesn't give you PT9 HD, that gets you pro tools 9. there's a few differences. how many tracks you can record. track input button, track punch, the ability to use Avid hardware with DAE engine, sync i/o etc.

OK, so I gather it asks for the HD core card s/n in order to process the purchase of an HD upgrade. Does it also ask for you iLok account and then download the iLok asset to your account? If so, when you transfer the asset to your ilok, does it take away any of the existing iLok authorizations (I still use PT 7 and PT 8 for old projects and need these) or can I just transfer that authorization to a different iLok altogether?

PT9 is one unified software, there is no PTHD or PTLE anymore. If you have HD hardware (at least core card) then PT will load HD features, if not, plain regular PT. And if you have HD hardware, you will not be able to load plain regular PT but will always boot into HD features.

Are you 100% sure it is unified software? I believe it is a unified installer. Unified software and unified software are two distinctly different things. . . a unified installer is one installation program, that installs onto your system in different ways, depending on the hardware and authorizations that are present at time of install. . .

If it was unified software Digi, oops I mean Avid, would miss out on revenue. . . because why purchase the ProTools 9 HD upgrade. Instead just by the less expensive standard ProTools 9 upgrade, install on your HD system and you are good to go.

I also can not find concrete information on the authorization/upgrade process, and last time I upgraded (from 7.x to 8.x), my 7.x iLok was eaten when I downloaded the 8.x asset even though documentation said it wouldn't. It was clear in the iLok account transactions etc. . . iLok said they could not help and it took almost 2 weeks to get a 7.x authorization back from csadmin@digi and I was mid project. I had to borrow an ilok from a friend. Craziness. . .

Does anyone know a definate answer to this, I share an HD system with my partner at my studio.... we both have our own Ilok accounts, iloks, and Pro Tools HD 8 license, can we both crossgrade to HD 9 and tie the two licenses to the same serial on our HD core card??? It would make sense as we buy our own software upgrades and have our own computers, the HD system is in a magma chasis and we share the HD3 in our studio.... I really hope this is the case?

It is one unified version of the software.. you buy an HD upgrade so you get a PT9 HD iLok asset... otherwise you get a regular PT9 iLok asset. To unlock the features and work with HD hardware you must have a PT9 HD asset on your iLok.

Are you 100% sure? The website says unified installer, not unified software, and I also believe I read somewhere that the iLok authorization is not required if you have HD hardware installed, but gives you the ability to run ProTools 9 with the toolkit. . .
