Adding Effects to a Track
Hey guys,
As you will tell from my extreeme newb question, I am very new to Protools. I have only had it for 24 hours and I have next to no experience with any recording programs other than cooledit pro. My buddy told me when I am applying effects, I want to start them in a new track, then route the track through the proper "bus". Well I totally forget what he showed me. can somone please tell me step by step how to route the busses properly? Thanks |

Re: Adding Effects to a Track
Route(output)your track's to a bus.......let's say bus 1&2.Create an aux track and select the input as bus 1&2.Apply the fx you want for the bussed tracks to the aux track.Name the aux track.......usually you name it the fx you inserted on it.Bam......your done.

Re: Adding Effects to a Track
Thanks man, I actually was doing it backwards lol
I can't believe I didn't figure it out, but thanks. Second question: I realized that I can take the effects off if I directly add them to the track. So why would I want to make a separate track in the first place? I thought the reason for it would be so you would still have that raw track to go back to. Is there another reason why we want to add effects to a separate track? |

Re: Adding Effects to a Track
routing effects to an "aux bus" serves two purposes:
1. conserve cpu resources (especially if you are using a reverb type effect - you don't want this over multiple tracks). 2. simplify setup (not having to remember / setup each individual track's plugin settings). 3. provide sophisticated routing (use of pre / post on an aux to send the signal to somewhere else). most people are concerned with #1 & #2.
