Default XP registering

How do I register XP on my PT machine if I don't have a modem installed? I've heard that you need to do that since it needs serial numbers from the PC...

I am about to go buy a copy...

Thanks,

Mat

If you do not have an internet connection there is a free 800 number that gives you the option to call and activate your windows. You do not have to register with microsoft, activation is necessary because after 30days you are locked out of windows.

Thanks

After 30 days, Windows will no longer boot up for you - or so I hear.

I was a little nervous about the activation. I had win XP installed on my old computer before I bought PT LE. And then I pulled it off to install PT (and went with a legit copy of ME I had originally for that machine). So I was planning on putting XP on my NEW machine... and since it is a completely different machine (different CPU / mobo... pretty much everything.. except the C drive, I THINK) I thought I might get hassled by the folks at Microsquash. But the internet authorization went right through without a hitch. I thought for certain I'd have to call and explain that I had UNinstalled it from one machine and was installing it into a different one (which the license agreement specifically ALLOWS you to do) but that didn't happen.

Anyway, it all went off without a hitch. You don't have to REGISTER if you don't want to, but you have to either call them or use the automated / online feature to activate it. If you don't, it will definitely stop working after 30 days.
