Nice testing, thanks for the video. It actually looks like you're experiencing the old behavior, also illustrated in this video from another user:
https://youtu.be/aVhZedAm6Pw?si=w9funeH8XWo1Ju2X I can just barely hear you hitting your keyboard, but it sounds like it's printing each note the moment you hit it, but sounding it out late when you're hitting it (when the limiters are active). You're compensating by playing a little early, like most of us do when there's latency. That's why it's printing "early". So, you hit a note early so that it sounds on time while recording. It prints at that early moment. |

Thanks for your response. Yes I suppose the behavior may be similar to that video you linked. So does this seem like the correct behavior? It really sounds to me earlier after recording than during recording which seems like a problem unless I’m misunderstanding. Is this behavior akin to other DAWs? Looking forward to hearing responses.

Just installed the PT Studio 2024.3.1 upgrade; suddenly now having a serious problem with Superior Drummer 3 inside protools (which was previously solid under PT2023 version).
--> Drum tracks are now massively out-of-sync. But... not always. If I make a new instrument track, insert SD3 and load the drum SD3 file it works just fine. But then when I delete the old track, the new track goes out-of-sync. ... Solutions??? To me, this looks like an initialization bug inside PT 2024.3 |

Wonder if there are any updates on the open cases? Avid asked me for some videos, of course, I am horrible at video, and sent some crude footage from my iPhone. Luckily I'm still at Ventura and never upgraded to Sonoma....

Wait, so is Sonoma the problem along with 2024.3.1?? I'm hoping to finally get my HDX card moved over to the M1 Studio in a Sonnett box. But as I understand it, I can't do that without updating the firmware, and I can't update the firmware on 2023.12.1. But if I upgrade to 2024.3.1 in order to update the HDX firmware will I suddenly experience MIDI latency? Confusing. And a bit of a pickle...

I'm confused as well at this point to be honest if things are working as they should or not. paul_g, if you hit Command Shift 5 it's easy to take a screen recording on your computer to send with the computer microphone picking up audio :)

There are definitely people who are using MIDI in 2024.3.1. I think the main ongoing known glitch is that when you are recording MIDI you can't have active DSP-hog plugins that introduce thousands of samples of ADC without having crazy latency on the record-enabled MIDI track (but isn't that whole point of ADC, to deal with that? Sigh...) Not sure what's up with Sonoma

I think the supposed issue is the notes printing early with delay compensation on when delay compensation inducing plugins are used in the session. Unfortunately from testing again it really seems that turning delay compensation off while recording MIDI with session with too many samples of delay is necessary in this version. To put it more simply though, when doing a record pass with a MIDI VI with a plug-in heavy session, what is heard during recording is not what is heard during playback, which I imagine can't be "right".

I never record MIDI, or audio for that matter, with any plugins at all on the Master bus. I'm talking specifically about if I have any DSP-intensive plugins anywhere in the session, then I hear a lag between when I press a record-enabled MIDI track and when I hear the note (and this is with a Placback buffer = 64). My recent example is that I have to disable any instances of the Weiss De-Esser on the VO tracks in my session (3000+ samples of delay) otherwise I hear really bad MIDI lag. I've also always been a little suspicious that the notes don't print where I play them. But that was mostly when I was running Hybrid Playback Engine (which I will be doing again soon - gulp...) The other workaround I've found is turning ADC off, but that's certainly not ideal either...

My explanation was flawed I'll admit. You are correct, not just on the master. It almost seems to me as adding more and more plugins throughout the session that result in delay compensation causes MIDI data to be printed earlier and earlier when delay compensation is activated during recording.
