Question Waking a display makes audio stutter

Can anyone confirm this or am I special

I'm running PT 8.1cs2 on Mac OS 10.6.4 with a new 8 Core Westmere and 24 GB of Ram. What I usually do is set up a hot corner on my display for putting the display to sleep while listening back to an edit or a mix. I find that doing this helps during editing sessions with clients who think they hear an edit. it's amazing how ones eyes can trick the brain... That said, I recently upgraded my Mac due to suspected problems with my previous machine (that didn't end up being Mac related ) but now I'm finding that when I put the display to sleep (Apple 30") and then wake it up (by moving my trackball) the audio being played back stutters. Any chance this is a bug or have I found another special issue with my rig?

I've done all the usual things... Trashing prefs, repairing permissions... the works. Next step is to swap out my cards again and see if I can get it to happen with another set.

According to the general troubleshooting section, putting a display to sleep is a no-no.

When I want the clients to actually "listen" to an edit, I set up zoom preset #1 to zoom out as far as it will go, and preset #2 to a good working zoom level. Then I just hit the "1" key when playing back edits, and back to "2" when I need to see something on screen. Believe it or not, I've even gotten pretty good at operating pro tools without having to look at the screen, which really pisses off people need to "see" edits as they roll by.

Hey velvettone. Thanks for the reply. Ya, I know it's not recommended but I've never had an issue with it like this in the past so I was wondering if anyone else experiences the same thing. Not to mention it's nice to get a way from a bright light shining in your face from time to time. The issue I was having that led to me upgrading my Mac involved some very similar stuttering while in record so I'm wanting to see if anyone else can reproduce this or if it's possible that I still have an issue... Thanks again!

I use a Hot Corner for the Desktop as a way to make the PT screen disappear temporarily.

So I just swapped out my cards with loaners to test and see if it's card related and found that it's not. What I do find interesting is I can use a hot corner to engage a screen saver without a problem but not the sleep feature. I'm guessing this has something to do with the newer Westmere machines since I've never had an issue with it in the past.

Anyone else running a Westmere that can try this and confirm? Thanks!
