Default Need a little MIDI Help

Hello Duc'ers. I was trying to Record drums with midi (Roland TD20 kit) i think i was creating some sort of weird midi loop in the way i had everything setup. i was expieriencing MIDI phasing and protools crashed several times.
This is how things were configured, I have a MIDI man 4X4

MIDI track input on 4x4 set to A ch 10 , so i could record MIDI drum track
MIDI track output on 4x4 set to A ch 10 , so i could send back to TD 20 after quantizing
AUX track with input set to SPDIF so i could monitor td20

After recording and quantizing, playback would crash protools and hang the program.Only way to continue was to hard boot. After this happened several times, I routed the midi input to a different midi channel, so protools wouldn't recieve any MIDI info while playing back the take. This was the only way i could get the session to not crash.
I use midi all the time with other programs ie Reason etc.etc. with no problems, this is the first time i'm using MIDI with a external module.

What would be the best way to configure ? I would like to be able to
record a midi performance
quantize after the take
send the midi back to TD20
and monitor the drums through a audio or aux track
By the way i'm sure this is a user error problem. Thanks for any suggestions

Sounds like you need to set the TD20's local control to off.

(Page 75 of the TD20 manual)

Thanks SPK, i did think of turning local control off. but wouldn't that bypass the internal sounds of the TD20? that was my thinking originally ,but After looking at pg.75 this looks like the way to go . I will try when i get home from work. Thank you very much, i was kinda hoping you would chime in

Nope, it will only turn off triggering them directly with the triggers. In this way, the internal sounds are only triggered by what's coming into the MIDI input, and not by both the triggers and the MIDI input.
