Default Updating OSX10.6 to 10.7

Hi,

I have to update from OSX10.6.8 to OSX 10.7.4 on my ProTools-Mac.

My question is if there are any bad experiences when updating 10.6.8 directly and not building the new system from scratch ?

I know that of course it's always better to start installation from scratch if it's a major OS - update ... but I'm just asking if there are maybe some folks who did the OS update by overwriting the already existing OS10.6.x and have not run into trouble later

Of course I got a clone of my recent very stable system !

Any experience would be very welcome

Over on the Apple forums there are lots of horror stories from doing the "upgrade"

If possible do the clean install

I did the upgrade by simply installing over the existing OS. I've had absolutely no problems. I know that it is not recommended but that diesn't mean that it doesn't work, especially if your pre-existing system is trouble free.

I just moved to lion, but did a clean install. Haven't even installed pt as of yet. I wanted to clear out some HD space, and that was my main reason for not "upgrading".

Fwiw as long as you make a back up first. You are gonna back up first? You could try the upgrade. If it doesn't work wipe the drive and do a clean install. Then as a last resort you can go bak to your back up.

I've never had an issue upgrading to a different OS right over the other. However if you have the time it wouldn't hurt to do a fresh install.

Thx a lot all for replying :)

I ordered a new 1 TB WD (WD1002FAEX) plus 8x4 Gig Ram and will start installing 10.7.4 from scratch next week.
If it needs too much time I can switch back (swap system HDs) to 10.6.8.

Is QuicKeys working with OSX 10.7.4 ?

I just checked their website and it's not (officially) supported.

I would strongly suggest you do a clean install, and keep a backup of your SL partition so you can restore it if you decide that lion is crap(which is so far what I think of it!).

Yes - I know !

But unfortunately MobileMe closes in June and I need to have my calendar, address book and KeyChain synced with all my other Macs and iPhone & iPad.

That's the only reason why I'm updating.
