Default beep beep?

just wondering as I am very new to post (well anything that touches professional level actually, soon to leave uni and venture into the real world that has nothing to do with what we are taught because no-one at uni knows anything past 'signal to noise might be less in digital and one might get a cleaner sound in post if using digital, and well.., they are all guesses because no-one knows anything, though they like to appear as they DO know EVERYTHING.., and the more i visit this site the more scared i get) and even the PT preferances still baffle me...,

the good old count down window for film, forget what its called (4 years and still cant remember, good old uni, get an hour of everything and move on).., has a beep or three at the end of it as does the colour bars for video

is there a way of creating beeps that/to sync with these same beeps within protools or is it a sort of manual operation?? just so I can always be sure that everything has remained in sync as I move from scene to scene.

also is there a way of making a burn window wthin PT if the quicktime one has been sent does not have one??

what is delay compensation, where is it and how is it used??

small questions and big answers I know., so any help is very much appreciated
M

Countdown thingy = Academy Leader

beeps = pips

How to get them? From the Guide Track (import audio from Quicktime movie)

How to create them? 2 seconds before the first frame of picture make a selection 1 frame in length and then use Audiosuite->Other->Signal Generator to create a sine wave @1000Hz.

If your quicktime doesn't include BITC then there's not a lot you can do about it without Final Cut or something similar easiest thing to do would be to use a Big Time counter.

Delay Compensation is found in the Setup->Playback Engine dialog.

Hope this gives a start for others who are distinctly more knowledgable to jump upon.

I thought you could generate a window burn by passing video through the sync I/O? I have not done it, so I'm not sure.
