Default Automation problem with and between matching break points

Hi,

I have several sections of automation that i can't move separately although the break points at each end are matched. when i hover the trim tool between the 2 matching break points it moves the automation for the whole track!

You can see on this video. the long section has 2 break points at each end and both are exactly -0 db the short section has 2 matching break points both 1.4 db. even when i create 2 new matching break points of -0 db it still won't select just that area

you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hghcibUM9Fc

hi res download .mov http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/trtg7a

Its always bugged me that you can't grab a section between 2 break points and move it up or down an exact amount whilst keep the relative level differences. without having to re-select the area!! which then keeps creating more break points, causing the faders during playback on my control 24 to jump around like a demented chicken with its head cut off.

unless i've missed it? is there a way to do it, just select between break point on the right and break point on the left and move up or down in an equal amount.

Is this happening on every session or just on certain ones?

You should be able to use the Trim tool to click and drag above two equal breakpoints to move just the section between those points.

I can't reproduce this unless I'm putting the cursor directly over a vertical breakpoint line before dragging.

Is there anything else that may be a contributing factor?

It works fine 99.9% of the time just occasionally i get this behavior.

I can find or think of any contributing factors!

Only workaround is to reselect the area! but after 3-4 amendments it looks like a shoot out a OK Coral

I've come across this too. I've taken to separating the region (when I highlight the part I want) cos it makes it a lot easier to do quick edits and a quick double click gets the exact same area selected.

Hi,

Yes i do that to occasionally, and it works on audio tracks if you want to automate an exact phrase, but if you want to automate just part? plus my problem is on a aux bus!

I would just like to be able to select a section between 2 break points and move it up or down at equal volume from both points! the whole section up 2db or down 3db regardless of whether there is a slope in the automation or not. it seems unless you have an exact straight it has to be re-selected every time! hence by the 5th remix its got 50 break points for each word!

I have seen this also.
Also the trim should be fixed so as to NEVER create ramps. For me this behavior is never wanted.

I always tought it's just how Pro Tools handles automation. I have the problems in almost every session. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't.

Could it be, that Pro Tools does it, because the breakpoints are not on the same level? I played with it a little bit and found, that the level has to be the same on both breakpoints to trim it with the trim tool without a selection.
