Default DBx 386 plus FMR RNLA... good combo?

Happy new year to all DUC'ers... My resolution for this year: To NOT use PT7 before 7.1 comes around...

For the past year or so, I've been using PT in live situations for processing purposes. For example, I love to insert my 002R I/O 5-6 on the mixing boards main buss and put a BF76 on aux input with buffer set to 128 to avoid latency. Poor mans 1178 on the masters inserts, sweet!

Unfortunetaly, I recently add some equipement stolen during a sojourn in Spain and had to re-invest in a more humble (yet portable) set-up. Hence my new Ibook and m-audio's firewire 410. Problem with the 410 is that the damn thing is unbalanced...
So my plugs on inserts idea doesnt cut it anymore...loss of gain, quickly distorts, etc.

Well, I've been doing some research and I need you guys input on this set-up I'm considering:

1- Get a DBX 386 tube Pre-amp with spdif out (http://www.dbxpro.com/386.htm) and use it line level on mixers main inserts
2- Insert an FMR RNLA on the 386 inserts. (http://www.fmraudio.com/RNLA7239.htm) for compression
3- Use 386 digital outs to 410 spdif in for recording. Separate level control
4- Use 386 analog outs to main inserts return.

That way, I use the pre's tube for warming up the sound, plus according to many the RNLA has a vintage leveling amp color to it. Moreover, I skip the 410's a/d stage for direct off-the-board recording (post tube, post comp) which alot of client ask me to do.
Basically, right now I can't afford a 1178 or 2-1176 or Avalon 737 or 2000$+ gear...
But would this set-up work in re-creating a similar sound? I'm looking for a fast attack, fast release 1176 (or LA2A) type program levelling. This set-up would cost about 500$ in the used market.

Well, hope this all makes sense, thanks for any suggestions/comments,

Eric

PS: Jfreak are you there...?
