i just set it all up using my Steermouse Software,
i use Kensington Slimblade, 4 buttons

ctrl+bottom left click, engages TCE tool (time compression)

then ctrl+bottom right click, does a macro, does 2 things
first changes back to standard trim tool, then engages the smart tool, (automatically)
so all is back to "normal"

I AM LOVING THIS!!!

Hi, it's good to know that if you select TCE or normal Trim mode by right clicking with the mouse, you will get smart tool still active after change.

i now actually have a momentary action for this TCE + Smart Tool

i hold down "X" on my keyboard, and it changes to TCE (time compression) WITH the Smart Tool
i release the "X" and changes back to regular Trim Tool WITH the smart tool

so that's 4 actions, with just the press , then release of 1 keyboard key

It's amazing, as i do my time compression, as i hold key, and when i release, all goes back to normal, LOVE IT,

this is all thanks to Keyboard Maestro!!!!
too bad Avid does not allow for "momentary" programming,

oh, and i also have this mometary action for my SLIP-SHUFFLE,
so i am always in SLIP, as i dont want things to shift, move etc

when i want to SHUFFLE, i HOLD down the ESC key,
when i release ESC, it goes back to SLIP
again, it's amazing once you use this,
very handy while editing, as i never forget to put it back to SLIP after i shuffle,
