Old feature request but a good one.
My thought on it was we should be able to choose which tool the modifier would switch to in Prefer It would also be crazy useful to have the Scrub trim tool momentarily. With that and TCE on demand it would save so much hassle. I've never once used Loop Trim but there's probably someone out there who likes it. I've used a similar Keyboard Maestro macro for years but mine isn't momentary; I didn't have luck with it working well, thanks for sharing.

i should really try Keyboard Maestro, just for this momentary TCE, just trying to think of which momentary key to assign, hmm, as i cant use cmd, or opt, needs to be on left hand. near corner, as that's where i "park" my hand when editing, and don't wanna move it much.
![]() ideas? if it works, that will be worth the $36 for Maestro, lol |

I also have a macro set up, but as a toggle. It switches to TCE trim mode with Smart Tool active. Toggle again and it switches trim to Standard and reactivates Smart Tool. It all happens instantaneously. I can see the allure of a momentary/modifier approach and may try that for myself but I've been happy with the toggle. |

Jingle, can you share your macros, ? pics, ?
i want to mess with it, and need to see what's best, i do want momentary though, press. ad TCE "activates", release and it goes back to standard tool while ALWAYS staying on smart toold. (all 3 highlighted) |

![]() As noted in the screenshot, this is specific to my custom shortcuts. I am triggering this macro using a Stream Deck with the 'KM Link' plug-in available for free on Envato Marketplace. I prefer that to Keyboard Maestro's own Stream Deck implementation. |

It's just a series of commands:
IF TCE Trim is off: • Switch on TCE Trim • Re-engage Smart Tool ELSE: • Switch to standard Trim tool • Re-engage Smart Tool The calculation that's happening is just flipping a variable between two states (1 and -1) to remember the state of the tool. ![]() You drag and drop these blocks using a GUI. If you're not sure how something works, click the gear icon and call up the Help docs. My only programming experience before starting with it was a bit of QBASIC in high school. |

+1 for a modifier key to engage the TCE tool when the Smart Tool is enabled.

I have a button for edit tools and a button for edit modes. Using modifier keys allows me to switch between tools/modes.
