TCE Tool - Modifier Key - Temp. Toggle

Hello, so i edit lots of narration, and need to constantly Time Compress with TCE tool

I like to have the Selector Tools always on "smart" mode, so i have options depending where on waveform i hover

I need to trim at times, i need to time compress at other times, back and forth,
having to switch the tool from TCE to regular trim with a mouse is a pain, as it disables the "smart" tool,

Can i assign a modifier. to every time i press , say cmd, or opt, on MAC, it temporarily engages TCE on the Trim tool?

is this too much of an ask?
can anyone suggest a workaround?
is there a keyboard shortcut i can assign?

I'm missing this too. Like the one-time-zoom. I don't edit foley or adr enough to really try to write a script. But is Elastic Audio an option here?

+1 on this idea. A modifier to toggle the TC/E Trimmer while in Smart Tool mode would be AMAZING!

I have two keyboard maestro macros for this.
On hotkey trigger press: simulate keystroke F6 two times.
On hotkey trigger release: simulate keystroke F6 three times and Cmd+7.

Works like a modifier

Audiofarm, thank you, crazy. we have to setup scripts, and macros, to perform such a simple task,

and elastic audio is not an option for my editing workflow,
i need that TCE tool activated momentarily with a press of a modifier key,

and i assume you cannot keyboard map it either in pro tools,
we need some crazy Maestro software magic or some C++ knowledge?

This is non latching momentarily. Press key and do your TCE while key is down and it returns to smart tool on release. Been using it for years :)

can you choose your momentary modifier key?

i wonder if i can do this with my Steermouse software, using either my MX Keys keyboard, or Kensington Slimblade mouse

You can choose any key but not the normal modifier keys. Best to have it in the left hand so you reach other important keys without moving much. Cmd still works for slip/grid toggle even if your hotkey is down and you have began stretching.

you can choose a lot of trigger sources in Keyboard Maestro. Even midi notes

He he! Try a demo first! No, I use the section sign (I'm not on US keyboard). Right above the tab key. The screenshot shows what keystrokes that must be executed on both press and release

$36 is nothing! I can't count the hours I have saved. And my wrist..
