Common Problems? Sample Rate!!

Hey Guys, I know this issue is a little old but, I've got a FW410 I'm having the same trouble as a few people, after doing all the reinstalling of the new drivers, old drivers, PTs 6.8 & 7, still stuck on 44.1 - have to say this is frustrating.

Is there anyway to see if something is hogging or defaulting my 410 to 44.1 - I've changed all possible apps to my internal device and made that the default with no effect. BTW: Other apps are able to change the sample rate without any real bother.

Also ProTools regularly (about every third time) starts up as a process and not as an application using over 24mb RAM and Maxing out the CPU - WTF!!? It will start up fine if I open a Pt session but not if I try to start the program from its Icon.

Been at this for a few days now... gettin bored
