Default signal Delay while trying to record

I know this must be a monitoring thing but I can't seem to find the thing to click on to lose the delay I hear when trying to monitor what I'm recording. Any ideas?

I think the only way to reduce the Latency in Protools free is reducing the buffer size. Protools LE w/001 has a low latency monitoring option. But , of course they couldn't put it in PTfree cause you have to use 3rd party hardware.
To reduce buffer size go to Preferences>hardware and click and hold on buffersize till it gives the pop up window.
Or, if you have a console you can just monitor through that.

Just mute the track that you have rec enabled. You'll still be able to hear yourself through your sound card (at least I am able to). That will eliminate the latency your hearing. Reducing the buffer will not work with many sound cards.

What if you're playing along to tracks you've already recorded? Are the playback tracks in sync with what you're playing in real-time? Or are they in sync with the delayed signal thru the monitors?

Thanks.

That you will see if you play it back after you recorded it. If it is not in sync anymore, just nudge the track into place....
