Default Really Need Help With Tempo Mapping

OK, so you have song off CD you brought into PT. You are trying to cover the song. You want the same tempo. But this song is a gospel thing. It starts at one tempo, by 40 seconds in, that tempo is too fast, then too slow, and so forth. Probably takes 7 tempos to get through the thing.

Though I've gone through the manual re IDENTIFY BEAT and BEAT DETECTIVE, this isn't heavy rock with a consistent snare or anything to lock on. And IDENTIFY BEAT and BEAT DETECTIVE seem very similar, and I wish there was an example ...a real life one...given in the book on how to use it.

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to get this thing? I have to do MIDI tracks (in Pro Tools) to match this thing. Thanks

Default Re: Really Need Help With Tempo Mapping

I tend to just go small sections at a time using Identify beat. You must establish where bar 1 is - I like to identify in 4 or 8 bar selections. I use the up/down arrows while it's playing to make a 4 bar selection. Then I zoom in and make sure the start /end points are correct. I leave it in loop playback. Make sure your selection plays back as a PERFECT loop. Now go to identify beat (starts at bar 1 ends at bar 5). Now while in grid mode start your selection on bar 5 and keep doing this process until you get to the end of your song.

After you understand this process beat detective will start to make a little more sense and you learn to save time using it to do this work for you.

Hope this helps.
