That program is already available! The name of the program is called: "WRight-Mixeth". Unfortunately the program is hard to come by. It was bought out by some bigwig recording studios(I forget the names of the recording studios). I doubt "WRight-Mixeth" will be released again into the public for quite some timeth.

Try Fruity Loops. I know you can save FL sessions as WAV's and MP3's which include midi. You might be able ti import a midi file then save it as a WAV.

As far as I know, a midi file ain't audio. It's a bunch of instructions -- like sheet music or a player piano roll. I doubt you can maketh a WAV file out of it.

I found something for me that works great for me. It sort of bounces a simple midi to wav: Midi2Wav Recorder by Rinasoft http://www.midi2wav.com

Keep in mind I don't use much midi. I just use simple midi as a listening tool for composing. I export from Finale music notation and sometimes I think it is handy to quickly save it as an audio file instead of a midi file.

For a bigger program that might help others convert all sorts of files is called Awave Studio. I never used it but it sounds handy for file conversion.

Well, now that everybody's thoroughly made fun of each other, here's a straight-up answer:

There's no way to convert a MIDI file directly to a WAV file, because you're dealing with two entirely different types of file. A WAV file is a digital file that contains actual audio information, in the form of thousands and thousands of samples. A MIDI file, on the other hand, simply communicates instructions to a MIDI device, telling it what notes to play, how long to hold them, how loud, etc. It can also be used to control any number of other functions, like PT automation or what have you. The way to get a MIDI file into a WAV file involves a step in between. You need to find a MIDI module of some kind that plays notes according to MIDI instructions. This can be a hardware unit or a software unit, there are all kinds. Then, you need to have the MIDI sent to the MIDI module, and send the audio output from the module (by the way- you'll get to choose what patches you use, and that determines exactly what it'll sound like) to pro tools (or whatever else you want to use), and record it as a WAV. THEN you'll have a WAV from your MIDI. Hope this helped!

Yeah, I'll take the blame for that... conversion involves piety and much faith and probally was the wrong choice of words ... I really just meant to find a utility that would make it quick to record a midi to a wav file without going through all the hassel of running extra audio cables to and fro.

For my purposes, I am enjoying Midi2Wav Recorder by Rinasoft http://www.midi2wav.com

Pretty simple to use. For me, no extra audio cables is required. I do have an old soundcard with some midi capability in my computer and I am using an audiomediaIII card. I guess I am internally recording the midi to wav? I don't know. Anyways, the whole process sort of feels like a PT bounce. It is a nice illusion.
