HELP: Upgrade 2022.4 Killed my PT
I downloaded and installed Pro Tools 2022.4 Win over Pro Tools **2021.12**. Now it loads to the splash screen and then dumps a,
"Access violation, unable to read location 0x000000008" on me. I have no idea how to proceed. Any help? I saw some old 2014 posts about 0x000000008 but they don't seem to help me.

Re: HELP: Upgrade 2022.4 Killed my PT
Standard practice on Windows is to uninstall Pro Tools - not any pug-ins - using Programs & Features, choosing the bottom option when the Change dialogue opens. Reboot, then install the update. You can use guitardom's Trasher to save and recall your Preferences - but check them anyway.
Just use the backup image you made before the 2022.4 install and restore that image. You did make an image, yes?

Re: HELP: Upgrade 2022.4 Killed my PT
You aren't supposed to install over on Windows.
You need to remove the old version and then install the new version. So go uninstall everything now and then just re-install the new version. Also, between that old version and the current, you will need to update all your plugins.

Re: HELP: Upgrade 2022.4 Killed my PT
You have other posts here on the DUC stating that you have successfully upgraded to version 2021.12. Is this PT 12 system something different than your main system? What version of Windows is on it? You might want to trash your preferences while you are at it.

Re: HELP: Upgrade 2022.4 Killed my PT
I am and have been a subscriber. I was ... regular? I dunno with all the freakin' confusing levels of "membership". I was not HD-anything. I was told by Avid that I am now an Avid Studio (not flex) person now.
UPDATE: I used Trasher to wipe some selected preferences. Everything seemingly is working now. I still need to see how many of my treasured presets are still there. Avid should buy Trasher and supply it to us all free.! Thank you everyone!

Re: HELP: Upgrade 2022.4 Killed my PT
Hey Junkgear: Nothing else was changed on my system. I everything in my profile is accurate except the version of PT I am using. It is now 2022.4.

Re: HELP: Upgrade 2022.4 Killed my PT
For future readers:
Probably best to remove previous installation before doing an "upgrade" to never version. In the end, I did not do that. But I had to trash certain (don't ask) certain preferences using TRASHER. This all worked so far. Again, I would like to thank the duc.avid community for their rapid help.
