Default Using Windows media player

I just upgraded to Xp and set up 6.4 on a new system. When I used 5.1 I could use the windows media player to listen to .wav files MP3s etc. With XP I get the error that 1 or more codecs is missing and it cannot play the file. What codec do I need? Is there any other way to play these types of files in WMP? Thanx all help is greatly appreciated!

You didn't tell us the bit-rate and frequency of the files WMP won't play. I received those messages trying to play 24 bit files. WMP won't play them. Winamp does, however. That's the only idea I have.
Best of luck!

i get that problem with my mbox all the time. the windows support is horrible on most studio equiptment i hear anyways. what i end up doing is disconnecting my mbox and reconnecting it and it works fine. this also happens in my Jet Audio player that i usually use. it may be because i have a slow computer also. sometimes it will just drop the aduio right in the middle of a song if i open another program that takes some resources (like adobe photoshop). i have to also change from my mbox in windows when i open PT because then PT dosnt have audio! this whole process sucks lol.

To play the *.wav files saved from Pro Tools LE in Windows Media Player, you need to download the AC3 Filter Codec. I had this same problem then was able to play them after installing this codec. You should be able to find it easy by clicking on web help after you get the error message, then following the link to downloading and finding that codec, hope this helps.
