Default dumb question-applying plugins to specific time

really dumb question probablky... but when i use my rtas plugins and effects and stuff ...is there a way to apply it only to a highlighted piece of audio because when i dump it on insert it applys to the entire track ..i figure there might be some way to bypass it on and off via midi or a button????

If you are planning to keep it on a whole track why not automate the bypass. If you just want it on a clip or section of a track, select the part and do an Audio Suite process on it.

automate the plugin.... see the manual. or double click the "auto" button in the plugin's window and figure it out yourself; it's easy.

or if you highlight a piece, you can use aduiosuite

You could always send the audio track to an aux track with the effect on that. Just automate the volume of the send, muting it where you dont want the effect.

Yeah, but will that cut off the trails on a delay plugin?

Nope. Put the delay plugin on the aux track... anything sent to this aux will be delayed. Decide what will and won't be sent to the aux by automating the volume of the send of the audio track. I use this method all the time, especailly with vocals to delay or verb only certain lines, words or syllables.
