Affordable power amp
Any recommendations on a cheap power amp? I hate to admit this, but I've been getting by just going through a Sony consumer receiver for the past couple of years (in fairness, I hadn't really done anywork that was going to be released to an audience other than the people I personally sold to so I wasn't too concerned). Keep in mind its nearly Christmas, and I'm a student so I really can't justify dropping more than a few hundred on it.
Or, Should I save a little scratch and cop a pair of Tannoy Active Reveals (price drew me to these)? I could use a solution soon so I'm not sure what to do. Any feedback from you guys certainly helps. Thanks (PS- I really wished I hadn't clicked the email notification option on that 'where are you from topic'...some 90 emails later!!!) Re: Affordable power amp
I have a Samson Servo 170. I paid about $139 brand new. I leave both channels wide open and it is noiseless. I am running them to event 20/20s

Re: Affordable power amp
Agreed, Hafler makes good cost-effective amps (fyi they're affiliated with Rockford Fosgate).
The best deal on poweramps I know is the Nikko Alpha series. You can find them dirt cheap used, and if you upgrade the resistors and capacitors in the negative feedback circuit ($25 by any wirehead) it competes with Bryston amps. A Bryston tech confirmed this. The models I've heard are the Alpha 120 and 220, 100Wx2 and 200Wx2 respectively, usually around $100 and $180, and they're really well designed and well built amps except for that one silly flaw. |

Re: Affordable power amp
Check digibid.com as they foten have great deals on Haflers. I got a 1500 for $200 brand new, sounds superb on the NS-10's, they almost sound tolerable!!!!
