Default Trim regions across multiple tracks?

Sorry about this. I'm a newbie, and the documentation isn't offering up any easy answers.

I can do this by creating a group and then selecting the group, but I'd like to be able to do this on the fly, quick and easy. I figured selecting the tracks of interest and doing the trim would work, but as soon as I grab the region boundary with the trim tool, the other track(s) selection(s) go(es) away, and the trim only affects the track I'm on.

What gives?

I think you want:

"Linking or Unlinking Track and
Edit Selections"

To link or unlink Track and Edit selection, do one of
the following:
- Select or deselect Options > Link Track and Edit
Selection.
– or –
- In the upper left of the Edit window, under
the Edit tools, click the Link Track and Edit Selection
button so it becomes highlighted (selected)
or un-highlighted (not selected).

Pg 562, Ref manual.

Mike.

Select the regions you want to trim, then hold down the Shift key.

Doesn't appear to help. Tried linked and unlinked.

Like I said up top, yeah, that works, but when it's a quick, on-the-fly situation, that's a bit cumbersome.

if you select with the I beam tool and drag the selection across multiple tracks (so your selection spans the time you want to trim and the tracks you want to trim)

then hit del (or backspace) the effect is the same as using the trim tool

Well, not quite. The reason I usually prefer the trim tool is that I'm usually trimming at a butt splice, and so it's handy that the snap-to-region-boundary is automatic.

Is there a quick way to get one side of the selection area to snap to a region boundary? That would be good to know.

tab to transient also stops at region boundaries. hold shift to select while you do it....
