Default AVID IO's VS Omni

Has anyone from AVID ever clarified whether or not the converters AND analog circuitry on the Omni and the AVID IO units are the same?

I've heard the converters are the same, but no one seems to know whether the analog circuitry is different (better) on the IO units. Just curious.

thanks if anyone knows...

TH

Right...I have a feeling AVID is hesitant to say anything that makes the Omni look even slighter lesser in quality...

It's my understanding that the ADDA are identical but the PSU in the HD IO is superior, resulting in a fractional increase in quality.

I suspect it wouldn't be night and day and we have an OMNI here and if you like the feature set I have to say it's a very good unit for the money. Sounds great.

It is limited as an IO though so if you need loads of ADDA just go HDio anyway.

Hey thanks.

Yeah I actually had one here for awhile and I loved how it sounded, and since I'm just recording myself (guitar overdubs, vocals, etc) IO is zero problem. I just remember thinking it sounded big and well grounded in the low end, very much reminded me of that Rosetta/Apogee vibe.

I just have been curious as to the diff. The AVID IO units are just getting tons of praise but no one ever shoots out with the OMNI....

thanks again
Tom

My local store just received their first Omni today. I've never seen one before in person, but it's a nice looking little unit. In many ways, this is perfect for songwriters who are recording a minimal number of channels at one time. I may consider one down the road.

HD I/O and HD Omni are comparable. HD I/O specs slightly better in certain areas, but the audible differences are negligible. Both units sound amazing and set a new standard for for Pro Tools hardware.

If you don't need the ins and outs get the Omni. I came from a 192 and got a Omni first. Loved it. Then Realized I need more I/O so I got a HD I/O 8x8x8 and I am extremely happy with the 8x8x8.

Everyone will say what ever they own is the best.

I have a really hi end Lexicon and I always print my Reverb. I compared it to my old sessions. I have to say the 8x8x8 has a lot more depth and clarity

More depth and clarity than the Omni, you are saying?
