Default Gain and Normalize

Hi ya...

I was wondering what was the real differences between the fonction Normalize and Gain.
For example if I set my Normalize with peak at -0.1db ,will I have the same result as if I set on the same file the Gain to reach a peak (after a Find Peak process) to -0.1db.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Gain is used in the purpose to create different level parts (for example quieter for the verse and louder for the verse, when everything had been recorded on the same input level...) ,an alternative to the volume automation (although this last one is better cause you don't modify the actual file by a process). And Normalize should be applied on a whole consolidated track to have the best optimized level.
Thank you for you're answers.I'm just guessing but the DUC's gonna help me.

Default Re: Gain and Normalize

My take is that the functions are much the same but with a different approach. Pesonally, I like the gain plug better as I can simply decide that I want 4db more level and make it happen, vs. guessing what percentage I want the increase to be. In either case, I only use this function for a track that was recorded way too low(and I can't re-record it) or for leveling bits of a track that are too hot or too weak.
