Rent Studio or Practice Space? is it worth it?

Just wondering if any of you guys rent out studio/practice space? Does your studio work pay for it? Do you share the space with anyone or does a band help you pay for it? Overall is it worth it?

I currently live in a house with several room mates who needless to say are getting tired of having drums setup and recorded in thier living room(even though they don't use it for anything ). So I've started to try to find something around town. Just something little that has 2 rooms, one to record in and one to be my control room. Do any of you do anything like this? I don't really know what I'm looking for, I guess I'm just trying to decide if it's worth it or not. Right now I'm doing about 1 project a month for about 500 dollars or so, and I just can't decide if it's worth trying to pay off the leftover cost or the full cost if I run into a dry spell.
