"sticky" Markers? Any ideas?
I have audio from a presentation, I need to edit the audio taking out some long pauses inaudible questions etc. However, I have all the powerpoint slide changes written down based on the time code during the recording, so if I go cut out audio in shuffle mode the notes will no longer be accurate.
Is there any way to put in a marker that stays with the audio rather than time? So that as I edit the marker moves with the audio rather than locking onto the time? I tried it with markers set to bars|beats and absolute and no luck. Not sure if the markers can do this or if anyone has another suggestion. working on windows xp with PTLE 7.3.1 |

Re: "sticky" Markers? Any ideas?
You just have to make sure you select the marker track along with the audio track each time you delete in Shuffle. It would be kinda cool if there were a pref for "Markers follows Edit" like there is for "Automation Follows Edit." But there ain't.

Re: "sticky" Markers? Any ideas?
I can select either the marker track or the audio track but not both at the same time.. also when I select some of the marker track and hit delete... it just clears any markers in that area.. it doesnt seem to move the marker track? I am sure this is a simple pref or something - but any suggestions on linking those two?

Re: "sticky" Markers? Any ideas?
Hmm. I have the same version and I don't have any trouble selecting Marker and audio track together (shift-click to select the other track). You're right, the markers don't move in Shuffle if only the Marker track is selected - not sure why; always bugged me. But they do if you select on an audio track at the same time. Obviously, if you delete in the Marker track, any markers selected are going to be deleted. Presumably, if you're only deleting dead space, no markers would be included.
BUT - thought of an even better plan on the drive home. Use the Color Palette to color the audio differently from marker to marker (separating the file into additional regions at the markers as needed). Then edit away, and when you're done, make a new marker at each color boundary. Fall off a log simple. Combined with the Grid = Regions/Markers mode, it would go really quick.

Thank you! Man I swear this Digi User conference (and the wonderful people -- blatant suck-up -- who populate it) have saved me a lot of hassle and headache - thanks again!

Re: "sticky" Markers? Any ideas?
Possible alternative tack - haven't tried this but it should work.
1. Cut it up in Slip mode (leaving everything where it is - tried the Strip Silence tool, BTW?) so that each marker would fall in a separate region. 2. Make a Sync Point in each region where you would have put a marker. 3. Rename the regions in such a way that they'll be contiguous in the Regions bin. 4. Remove them from the track (Select All, Clear), drag them back in using Timeline Drop Order: Left to Right (bottom of Regions bin menu). This step assumes there's no automation on the track yet - if there is it would erase it unless you uncheck Automation Follows Edit. Now you have a sync point at each place you would have put a marker, and if you do further editing, the sync points will move with. There are certain operations that remove Sync points, so you'd need to keep an eye on them.
