Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project
I just installed Pro Tools First and when I try to start it is shuts down. Here are the steps:
- start Pro Tools Frist - Splash screen comes up - Dash board screen pops up to create or open a project - If I select a Template and click Create it will - Display "Restoring Tracks" - Display a "session Notes" screen that says that some input or outputs have become inactive. - It will ask if I want to save note and if I say Yes or No Pro Tools will shut down - The saved notes look like this: Code:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments Some inputs or outputs may have become inactive because your audio hardware device has changed. Missing Elastic Audio plug-ins Elastic Audio processing has been disabled on Track "Audio 1" because the Elastic Audio plug-in is not in the Plug-ins folder. Elastic Audio processing has been disabled on Track "Audio 2" because the Elastic Audio plug-in is not in the Plug-ins folder. Elastic Audio processing has been disabled on Track "Audio 3" because the Elastic Audio plug-in is not in the Plug-ins folder. Elastic Audio processing has been disabled on Track "Audio 4" because the Elastic Audio plug-in is not in the Plug-ins folder. Missing Inputs The input "Input 1" on track "Audio 1" is not available in the current I/O setup. The input "Input 1" on track "Audio 2" is not available in the current I/O setup. The input "Input 1-2" on track "Audio 3" is not available in the current I/O setup. The input "Input 1-2" on track "Audio 4" is not available in the current I/O setup. - I can also hit Cancel instead of creating or opening a project and Protools will come up with limited options. From there I can get into the PlayBack Engine and select different setups, but with the same results when I try to open or create a project. I have tried it with both Asio4All and our FocusRite Scarlett 2i2 (which I have verified works with this machine). I have also tried a number of items listed in similar posts such as reinstalling, disabling plugins (By deleting and holding Shift on startup), and Asio4All, but they have not helped. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! I'm wondering if this machine is not powerful enough to run Pro Tools First? Here is my Sandra report: Code:

Re: Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project
I am experiencing what I believe to be the same problem, but I notice that this post has yet to generate any responses or suggestions. So I'm hoping this additional amplification might prompt a little helpful feedback.
I began using Pro Tools First in May 2020, on an old Dell XPS running Windows 10, and used it successfully until Sep 2020, when that old Dell machine gave up the ghost. I purchased a new Surface Book 3 in Oct 2020, but have not succeeded in getting Pro Tools First up and running on the new platform. The detailed Sandra report for my Surface Book 3 is attached, but here is a quick summary:
Here is a quick review of the behavior of Pro Tools First as it attempts to load on my Surface Book:
I have read through the General Troubleshooting Guide (Windows), and the Computer Optimization Guide for Windows 10. Here are the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
At this point I'm out of ideas. If anyone reading this thread can help I would be very grateful. I had a good experience using Pro Tools First on my old Dell machine for a few months, but after three months of struggling on my Surface Book, the time may have come to kick Pro Tools to the curb and learn an alternative DAW. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Re: Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project

First of all, PTF requires an ASIO compliant driver for audio, which I’m not sure if the stock Dell driver is. Second, a lot of the internal sound cards do not provide the inputs/outputs that PT requires. You can try holding down the N key while PTF loads. This will bring up the Playback engine which will allow you to choose the sound device as well as the inputs and outputs. If that doesn’t work, you can try ASIO4ALL, which it an ASIO driver that sits between your sound card driver and PTF. It’s finicky at best, but may get you going. Beyond that, a proper audio interface will be your best bet. |

Re: Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project
Hey, I have the same problem, I'm using the Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen Studio. Did you ever figure out a solution?
Thanks, Tom |

Re: Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project
I am having the same issue. The software just closes once it opens a new session. I have tried everything under the sun to try and get this to work so that I can give this a try with my keyboard but since it won't load, I'm nearly ready to give up. I have put in the specs of my laptop below. I haven't installed any plug ins at the moment so I know it's not a corrupted plug in.
Device name LAPTOP-R1HGVIDM Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz 1.19 GHz Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.79 GB usable) Device ID E80B0852-9F63-4FAB-91EA-6F6A224D8457 Product ID 00325-96716-92312-AAOEM System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display Edition Windows 10 Home Version 20H2 Installed on 9/26/2020 OS build 19042.746 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0 I'm trying to add in a M-Audio Keystation Mini32 MK3 into the software so that I can use that to record the music. Please give me advice before I go crazy. I was hoping to be able to record this music and write a song for my husband by Valentine's Day but this is adding undue stress to that. |

Re: Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project
Not having much luck here either.
I already have PT10 running on a MAC and I wanted a portable solution to track a remote vocalist. Installed PTF on a Dell Inspiron Win 10 laptop using an MBox2. It was so easy, but the computer was old and cranky so I replaced it with an up-to-date Dell Inspiron Win 10 with 8GB RAM SSD i3 etc. Installed everything as before and have been unable to run Pro tools since. Like the OP, it crashes every time at the point of 'opening overview file'. This happens with existing projects or creating new ones from the PTF templates. Tried using the ASIO4ALL driver with the soundcard rather than the MBox2, exactly the same. Reinstalled Pro tools and the MBox2 drivers, no change. AFAIK the only difference is the new laptop, a later generation Dell Inspiron to the one where it installed perfectly. Trawled the net, seems to be lots of problems like this but no proven solution |

Re: Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project
I see the common point of people who cannot start PTF: they are using a recent Dell system.
I have the same issue with my Dell 1065G7 Realtek Audio. I really suspect Realtek audio crashes when started with PTF. And it is impossible to deactivate it (even you think you have deactivated it, it still tries to run and then crashes). Do you agree with me? |

Re: Pro Tools First crashes when creating a project
I was told by support at focusrite that Pro Tools First will not work with Window 10 build 1904 which is the newest. Can anyone confirm that?

I'm wondering why it took so much time to deliver this workaround for 10th Gen users. By the way, it remains a workaround because I guess it just disables a feature of your 10th Intel processor ("AESNI" if I correctly understood). This feature aims to accelerate by hardware the encrypt/decrypt of software protected by a key. All software using this feature will be affected. Am I correct? |
