001 rack PCI card won't fit new daul G5 PCI slot?

hello all.

its been a very long time since i have posted anything here...

but now i am upgrading both my set-ups and ran into what is sure to be the fisrt in a series of problems.


case history:
ugrading from a 001 rack on a single sawtooth g4 to a dual 1.8 G5.
from OS9 to OSX 10.3.9 / PT 5.1 LE to PT 6.4 LE


Problem:
got all my software and goodies for LE upgrades but went to install the PCI card and i can't seem to
find a PCI slot in the G5 that my ProTools PCI card will fit into.

do i have a newer PCI technology in the G5? PCI-X or something?

what is the work around?

Sorry buddy, but you are now going to have to upgrade to a 002. Digi is so particular, take look on the compatability section of this site, it's plainly stated NO G5... but hey look at the bright side, you can get a 002 rack for 800.00 with trade in. My heart is with you sir, for I did find myself in this mess when I started messing with Digi, read ALL their specs, or go thru an authorized dealer like Audio One or Sweetwater, they should know all the info of what would geek up

i did do some research and did find out allot about operating systems but come on -
i haven't needed to be here online in 2 years maybe and then i come back and the tech support is extensive yes,
but over the top and not very well organized. maybe it is me but i have been searching the DUC and all the other spots
for info on this and you were the first to give me some feedback. i've wasted 2 hours just sittinig and searching.
but you tell me its plainly written huh? guess i'll search some more.
i know that PT 6.4 is the highest version number i can go with using the 001.
why would they not support the machine that ships with that OS?

yeah, that hurts the more i think about it.

no work arounds? no conversion kits?

boy was i ever wrong about the first of a series of problems.

there was only one problem -
i had a 001.

so now i have traded up into a 002 rack and its a bitter sweet feeling.

glad i got it - wasn't wanting to change interfaces - but it looks cool and has better AD/DA and pre's. this is good.

any real issues i should be aware of with the 002? dual 1.8 G5 and 10.3.5. wil be 10.3.9 soon.

and my firmwae needed updating but it never successfully completed the download update process? is this bad.

You're going to find you wondered why you didn't change up sooner! I don't know if there is any difference in the converters themselves but I believe the 002's clock is better and the resulting tracks are going to jump out at you like never before. I love my 002. It's one of the best decisions I ever made!

I'll let you guys know if my decision to buy the HD2 Accell/192 I/O w/Analog option was equally as wise.

Don't upgrade your OS past 10.3.8! Digi stopped R&D and moved right to Tiger. there may be issues unknown to most people here and at digi and there won't be very much support if you do have a problem.
