ISSUE SOLVED/ Spinning wheel on file save and other functions/
ISSUE SOLVED/ too many "missing clips". Starting off fresh with another file, importing everything from the session into the new one.
If the issue continues I'll be back and ask for help. Thank you. On High Sierra here. iMac mid 2011 Experiencing spinning wheel and sometimes 10 seconds or so lag, even when trying to open the midi editor on a track. Never had this issue before. I am reading about the spinning wheel being a common problem in Protools now. Sometimes the program crashes as well or won't even open fully. I've quit all programs running in the background, but still no luck here. Why is Protools so finicky?!! What suggestions do you have to make my system more efficient. I was using Protools 11 on a bootable drive, but since that drive started having issues (thanks to time machine backup restore problem) I am now working exclusively in Protools 12 but with some problems as well. Looking forward to all replies! Last edited by soundartsonline; 10-31-2021 at 04:37 PM. |

Re: Spinning wheel on file save and other functions
"Help us Help You" up the top of each DUC web page. Do the standard troubleshooting steps there, trash prefs, etc. You should be doing that stuff automatically. Use the Pete Gates PT Prefs utility to help trash stuff. http://petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html
Does it only happen with one session, or sessions all derived from one session if so suspect that's corrupted. Try save session in create new session and import content or roll back to your last good backup. Pro Tools exact version? System info, how much memory? How much Pro Tools disk cache do you have configured if that's supported in your version. The program crashes how exactly? What exactly do you see on the screen. Any error messages? (ugh Pro Tools 12 you may not have a human readable log file). |

Re: Spinning wheel on file save and other functions
Thanks Darryl,
I think I figured it out. There were missing clips that the program was struggling to find. I think that's what has caused the issue. I created a new file and am importing the session as you suggested as well. If the issue persists, I'll be back with further details. Thank you for your reply to my post! Lisa |

Re: ISSUE SOLVED/ Spinning wheel on file save and other functions/
Pete's (who is on DUC) utility is super handy. When testing if trashing pref files might help you can use it back them up first so you don't lose settings.
