Does it work for distorted material, guitars for instance? The regular Melodyne Plugin has, for instance, always had a little trouble with gravely voices. Haven't had time to try it out yet but I'm really curious.

Yes! Very very very good. It is much better than I thought it would be. The polyphonic editing is outstanding! But beyond that, the Editor has improved zooming, and editing features. I can hardly wait for the plug-in.

Oh, and it wouldn't do a good job on distorted tracks because there are way too many other frequencies added that would make it tough for the Editor to decipher.

That's what I thought it would be like. Too bad. I thought maybe they could pull off a miracle.

The other stuff is good to hear about though.

Works well on some of the big fish metal guitars, IMHO... Give it a go and see what you think.

I have been playing with it for a few hours now. WOW! they really stepped it up a notch with this one. You can even decipher overtones. I did it with a bunch of choir chords and you can see all the overtones it was creating and could correct it. I am having a blast with this.

Can't wait for the release!

I'm going to remember yesterday, the 18th of September 2009, for the rest of my life, as The Day It Happened - the first time ever that notes in a mixed audio stream could be individually manipulated. This is the Holy Grail of audio editing breakthroughs.

Is it perfect? No. Nothing is. But yesterday, with no previous experience with any Melodyne products I was able to open a relatively ambient, reverberant mix of a live-recorded six person acapella group and...

-Change any singer's note's pitch in cents or steps
-Smooth or enhance vibrato
-Smooth pitch variation during a note
-Change the location or length of a note
-Mute any note
-Change volume of any note

...without affecting the overall integrity of the original sound, including the room ambience and reverb.

Like I said, it's not perfect - some artifacts could be generated, but so far it seems no more problematic overall in that regard than other tools like Auto-Tune or Serato Pitch & Time. And what it *can* do is about as close to miraculous as I've ever experienced in my many years as an audio pro.

I knew this thing was coming, having followed the news about it for several months now, but always kept an extremely skeptical "I'll believe it when I see (and hear) it" attitude.

I saw. I heard. I believe.

Think the DNA editing features are nice but the audio quality after moving notes etc. is really bad.
The transients suffer so much that I'd use this tool in an extreme emergency only.

What kind of material were you editing?

An acoustic guitar riff.
The attack of the individual notes suffered a whole lot.
