Default Anyone Use FMR RNC compressor with Mbox?

Anyone use this compressor or another similar unit with the MBOX 2? I'd like to run my bass and vocals through some compression as I'm tracking, for overall smoothness, and I wonder how this might compare to the PT plugins.

Thanks in advance.

Andy

Not with the Mbox but I do have a several RNCs that I use on guitars and sometimes vocals. Ugly looking little beasts unless you rack them up in the Funk Logic rigs or something similar but they do a very nice job for the price. I haven't tracked a bass through one but as long as you don't set the attack too fast it should be fine. As for comparing to PT plugs that's a little more complicated. Two different animals, in the box digital (PT plugs) vs out of the box analog (RNCs) with potentially different applications.

All in all not bad little compressors (especially in that price range) if you just need a little taming before the DA converters or a little glue coming out of the stereo buss. Just make sure you understand what you're getting, i.e. stereo (not dual mono) channels, no balanced ins/outs, etc. The online literature is pretty clear about the details.

Hope that helps some,

Rick

You won't be able to use any compressor for tracking with the Mbox 2, unless you're using another mic preamp - i.e. not the mic pre on the mbox. There is not way (that i know of) to get the RNC in between the mbox2's mic pre and the converter which is what you want.

Using the inserts will put the RNC between the preamps of the mbox and the converters...

I'm pretty sure the Mbox2 doesn't have inserts. The original Mbox did.
Correct me if i'm wrong.
