Weird recording behavior
Hi there,
I am having weird behavior while recording through bus. I have a simple session - 5.1 track as a source and 5.1 track as recording target. Source track was recorded in another session using quickpunch and obviously has edit points. Now, if I record it on target track center channel gets a click, that does not exist on source track. More of that - if I consolidate the edit on source track- there will be no click on it. If i create a fade on source track - even a couple of samples- and record it on target track there will be no click on target track. I attached a screenshot. Anybody had this? 2022.09, mac mini I7, HDX, 256 samples, no DC |

Re: Weird recording behavior
YES, that is expected in MANY situations. Even if a pop does not occur in one place, and all you do is record it - without either a fade or proper consolidate, the clips are processed or treated as "separate" in some way, and the pop occurs in another future playback.
The quickly assumed solution is simply to create a fade, a crossfade, or as you mention consolidate. NOT to do anything else to stop the pop. Among aesthetic fade-in or -out, fades are basically for such scenarios where pops occur. Edit: You could test by doing a little fade out and in on those clips, consolidate the individual clips, then see if the pop happens when you do the record. If the pop goes away, then surely there is some audio signal being generated or interpolated at the clip edges, where the fades properly remove the sound. Why exactly you don't hear the pop in your initial edit is the most interesting part, not the solution, I think.

Re: Weird recording behavior
I really truly -never- had a pop on a clip edge with a fade. But on clip edges with no fades, sometimes pops yes, sometimes pops no, since PT 7 or 8

Re: Weird recording behavior
As you can see on screenshoot -it is not a pop. Target just doesn’t have all info from source. But yes, fades are essential

Re: Weird recording behavior
I meant click.
I cannot hear the audio. As I mentioned, sometimes a cutoff waveform is recorded as a click or additional noise of some sort, it can be very unpredictable. In many cases, no click will be present, and one case it will be. I suggest to just always fade or crossfade, as it is expected to always work correctly. Is there a reason you don't want to do that, if simple measure as it is eliminates the click?

Re: Weird recording behavior
Just to add that after consolidate you can use the Pencil tool too to correct a digital audio click sound on the waveform..
