Avid Link 2024 - Is it usable?

Like many I have had issues with Avid Link in the past, which I find surprising but there you go...

Has it become more reliable for updating Pro Tools, and associated plugins?

It's working fine on my end. Currently on version 2023.11.

I am having issues with Avid Link 2023.11 the application will not allow me to activate a license for Sibelius Ultimate 2023.11

I get the following

There was an critical error initializing the licensing engine. Error code:5
Please contact Avid customer support.
Application can't continue work and will be terminated.

Well there is this issue will GrooveCell and SynthCell updates on Macs.

Candidly I have not used it for a while, when I did I found often Pro Tools and Eucone would not update from within the Lin App and I had to update the good ol' way from within my Avid web account.

There really is no legitimate reason to use Avid Link, IMO. If everything works fine without it, just keep going as is.

Yeah, the Avid download center is another go to if anything acts up. :)

What about centralization and convenience?


I can see what needs updating without having to go search around for it. Then I can update from a single click. Granted, it has to work properly, but conceptually there is nothing wrong with it.


I don't really need the other stuff, but the app is not so large as to be a drain on resources. I just close it when I need to session.


I don't get the hate for it...unless it brakes things of course. I have yet to have a problem with it.

Hi Obsidian Dragon - our Avid Link devs are already aware on this and they are already fixing the issue. The 2024.1 update was intended for Windows users.

Every time I hit myself in the head with that hammer it hurts.

Does anybody know if they have fixed that hammer so it hurts less?
