Sounds like you have the dreaded power harness failure.
Contact Digi Customer Support. They'll express post a new one to you. Really easy to install yourself.

Isn't that power harness issue fixed yet? I'm currently using an mBox (ver 1) and it works fine. I use it mainly with Cubase however (more than 32 audio tracks, easy integration of vst, plus my mates use it too so it's easy to exchange projects).
I'm considering a multi i/o device and might go for the 002r since I'd stil like to have pro tools around for some stuff. But I don't want a new piece of hardware to crack on me because of a design flaw...

So isn't this problem fixed on new units???

According to Digidesign, new units with a serial number that ends in "G" or later in the alphabet have the new power harness.
