Default Noise gate plug in

Hey am looking for some advice. Have a kick drum that is picking up a bit of the snare etc from the rest of the kick. Think i need to use the noise gate plug in but all i seem to get when using it is to deaden the kick itself and the unwanted parts of the kick are still there. Any advice on what setting i should be applying? Thanks

Set the attack as fast as it can go and adjust the hold and release times dependent on the decay of the kick drum. Then carefully bring up the threshold so the gate is not opening for anything but the kick.

Personally, I tend to hate and avoid gates if I can. One trick you might try is; duplicate the track. Strip out all the kick hits and insert the EQ 1 band, and hit the polarity reverse. The reversed bleed will cancel the bleed on the original track. Another method I use quite a bit is; insert Drumagog and grab a good kick sample(could even be a clean sample of the kick you are using) and you can either eliminate the bleed with the right setting(sensitivity) or control the amount of bleed(a little is not a bad thing sometimes) by using the Blend control.

When using a gate, use the side chain filter to remove the high frequencies from the trigger signal, so it won't open on snare hits (start trying a high cut set at 100 Hz). This is a very effective method. Choose short attack and release times.
