Why is my PT 5.1.1 session file suddenly 20 Meg?
Hello,
I'm running PT 5.1.1 on a Mix Plus system on a G4 / 933. I've done a lot of relatively large sessions on my system, running 64 tracks. I've never had a PT session file get bigger than 2-3 Meg. Suddenly the other day while I was tracking drums (12 tracks of drums and 4 scratch tracks) the seesion ballooned from about 800K to 20 Meg! I have no idea why. Suddenly I needed to allocated 256 Meg of RAM to Pro Tools just to open the session. It doesn't make sense? I tried importing the tracks into a new session, and that also ended up being 20 Meg. Why would this one particular session be so big? Thanks - Steve |

Re: Why is my PT 5.1.1 session file suddenly 20 Meg?
I've had a session crash during a record, and that caused it to eat up tons of space.
If you have your pref set to "open end record" or some other large value, the computer will set aside all that space for your current record pass. When the record is finished, it frees up what was not used. If the computer crashes, all that space stays allocated. Look inside your audio files folder for any weird long files. If that's not the issue, I'm out of ideas good luck |

you might want to try reformatting your hard drive if the problem persists. use mac os extended. and if your using atto scsi drives, make sure the box is checked for "optimized for audio" in their drive formatting utility.

Re: Why is my PT 5.1.1 session file suddenly 20 Meg?
If the session file (not the audio file) is too big it may be because you have millions of automation point that were recorded to your session. Look for it.
If it's that, maybe you have a shaky midi controller that send PT tons of info and you end up recording volume, pan, mute, plug-ins, etc. automation points; and that on all tracks. Also look at your list of regions, you may have a track containing many small regions. Try importing one track at a time in a new session, then save, the check the size of the session. You will find which track have to much info on it so you can rebuilt-it manually. JC |
