Cannot upgrade to PTLE 8, please help

Hi,

I recently upgraded my Mac to OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. Prior I was a longtime 10.4 User with PTLE 7.4 (since 2007). My system ran great but I had to update as life was getting hard with Mac OS Tiger due to less and less support for other software I use. So this winter I successfully upgraded my OS and now I wanted to install my rusty old ProTools, just to find out that 7.4 will not run on 10.6 . So I looked up other options and realized that upgrading to PT 9 or PT 10 would make little sense, as my fairly old system (MacBook Pro 2,1) will not support these. So PTLE 8 would make the deal...so far so good, here's the catch: I cannot purchase PTLE 8 in the Avid shop. What I could purchase would be PT 7.4 (makes no sense, already have it) or PT 8 M-Powered (makes even less sense as I use a MBOX 2 Pro and do not own a M-Audio interface). So if anyone out there has an idea of what I can do I would gladly appreciate your help, I am willing to buy this upgrade from 7 to 8, but it is obviously not offered anymore (why, as Avid still sells PT6 and PT7??)

Why are you saying that your Mac will not support PT10? Here is a list of the qualified models:

You may not get the same performance as a new Apple Computer would- but as far as I can tell from your post you should be able to upgrade to 10 and get an experience that would not be too much different than you would if you were running 8. There is not really any legitimate way for you to get 8 now. Also 10 is the most supported version of Pro Tools- good luck finding help with 8 if something goes wrong. PT 10 is the way to go for you.

I've got a 2007 Imac 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I'm running PT10 on Snow Leopard and it works fantastic.

@ promixr: unfortunately my MacBookPro is a late 2006 model, which according to the link you provided is not supported by ProTools 10
Buying PT 10 as an upgrade from LE 7.4 for 427€ (close to 600$) and checking if it works just to find out it is not supported by my system would not be good at all.

Is there anyone out there that has tried using PT 10 on a 17" MacBookPro 2,1 (late 2006 model, 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB Ram of which due to the model only 3GB can be addressed)?
