Again. There isn't any actual advice here. Just a lot of angry responses. Your right I didnt read every single "before you post" thread, but believe me I have spent a fair amount of the last week reading jargon and gibberish on a cross section of sites from avid official to gearslutz. I havnt come here to spew anti avid anything, but you have to understand after I asked my tech questions the summed up general answer was "pro tools is amazing and I have no idea how to help you". What I will recommend to the people posting hostile msgs is this... if you dont have anything useful to say, or are unable to express yourself without alienating people perhaps you should keep it to yourself. The notion that this system is unmoddable to run pro tools is inaccurate as best. It is running pro tools, just not effectively enough to do anything useful. It doesnt auto fail/crash/stop play back. So is anyone actually going to help me or are we just gonna use this thread as yet another medium for which we can blindly love and hate PT and recite our various propaganda?

sorry to be extra useless, but if you can give me specific directions on how to modify power settings? This week is my first exposure to win7 and its taking me forever just to find certain menus. Took me like 45 mins to find add/remove programs since its now listed as "uninstall programs".

No one is angry here, friend. We just saw the Sandra and gave our advice. Really, please get with it. Necjamc is also asking very specific questions in an attempt to assist.

By nature, I am NOT a Mac guy. I only moved over to the Mac last year because I got sick and tired of 15-years of using Windows for audio, midi, notation, sound design, etc of weird, random issues, lockups, products not working properly, etc. Moving to the Mac, all of those problems are 100% gone. I'm not saying Windows won't work, just that a Mac is far more predictable, has a set standard, and you know what you're getting.

  • right click computer in the start menu
  • click properties
  • click performance information and tools
  • click adjust power settings
  • click High performance
  • then click adjust settings
  • actually change settings
  • then click the advanced settings
In this list is Processor settings, it should be min 100% for PT

Do you have a power schemes icon in the right side of your system tray?

edit: actually, necjamc's steps give you more specific control.
