Default Apogee 800 Rosetta with X-Firewire card

Just asking about how PT9 and the Rosetta 800 with the X-Firewire card is holding up so far? How's stability, track counts, plugin usage, etc?

Thanks

I'm running Apogee AD-16X and I'm getting pops and clicks. Most likely clock issues. I've noticed some funny things with the ADC. I have 8 channels of drums bussed into an aux with about 3 hungry plugz. Once I added the third one the tracks lost their alignment.

Pops and clicks, not good. Did you do a clean re-install of your system? Are you using the latest OSX?

I've heard a few other people are using Ensembles and getting good results.

I'd like to know how this is going also. And on a side note, how many can Rosetta 800's can be daisy-chained? Just curious as to if you could get 32 tracks with them? I'd like to buy a symphony system, but it would be more practical to save up for one at a time.

I'm finding that the pops, which sound like a clock issue, happen when I'm using Maestro to monitor my input. The problem seems to be stemming from the fact PT 9 doesn't come with a way to turn input off. So the result is PT and maestro aren't able to monitor input at the same time, and play well together, even when I mute the channel I'm recording to. I hope that makes sense. The problem most likely could be resolved if Avid implemented a way to turn PT's input monitoring off, which I believe is a function of PT 9 HD.

Well, I took a chance and got PT9. First tried it with just the iMac in/out, then tried the Rosetta. So far so good. I haven't recorded anything yet, just played with some soft synths and then played back a project I was doing in PT8.

Basically I did a clean install of everything, the OS (I had my hard disk partitioned already), starting at OS10.6.2, did the combo updates up to 10.6.4, then iWork, then PT. No pops or clicks, just a very clean sound (my 002 never sounded like this). On thing though, I haven't loaded Maestro on this partition. I did that on the other partition where I have Logic and updated the X-Firewire/Rosetta drivers.

Hope this helps other people. I'll write more about it later as I go on.

The 800's have been known to grow coarse hair on your keyboards.. You should probably send yours to me for safe disposal..

Since Apogee said they will stop making them, and the release of PT9 these things have increased in resale value.. I'll get one yet.

Hmmmmm, you want my Rosetta, ehhhhh. Well, maybe I could part with my 002R, but my Rosetta? I just bought the X-Firewire thingy and went through the trouble of getting everything set up and all. I don't knowwww.

I'l think about it.

IMHO I'd not go the firewire option, but rather the Symphony64 option. While it's more money, there are significant differences. With the firewire option you're basically using the computer's host processor for all monitoring and routing---which is the reason you're getting pops and clicks. With the Symphony card you're getting real onboard DSP which is handling the buffering, latency, routing of I/O, etc. The performance is better, latency is non-existant, and it's an easier load on the resources of your computer.

I was looking at that for myself, too, but going that route just takes too much money and I just bought my iMac.
