Default Will RAM Speed Affect H/W Buffer Settings?

Running a P5K-E with 667MHz DDR2. Will an upgrade to 1066MHz DDR bring a dramatic difference in performance? My system croaks a bit under 512 Samples (my Dual Core laptop which runs 1066 MHz DDR2 can do 64 Samples).

I think you may have answered your own question. Check with Asus to make sure your P5K can take the 1066 RAM and plan on entering RAM timings manually.(unless another p5K user has experience on the setup).

I would think that upgrading from 667 to 1066 should make an noticeable difference in overall efficiency. The added efficiency should let you run more effectively with a smaller buffer.

Thank you all. I had an Amazon Gift Certificate from XMas and just used it to purchase some of the 1066 RAM recommended in the Quad Core post. The P5K-E Wifi MAX is 1066 MHz RAM. I am hoping I answered my own question. According the Amazon site, the RAMs timing is equal to that of what is suggested in the Quad Core sticky here. I PRAY I am able to run buffers below 512 because at the moment, if I do, I get a billion 6088 and 6085 errors.

I've posted the same question over and over again here on the DUC and think I am finally about to run a stable desktop system.

Hopefully that solves the problem. 667 could be considered genuinely pokey.

Make sure that wifi is disabled when running Pro Tools(if you haven't already).

Just got my new RAM sticks. NO DIFFERENCE. I'm not too mad because I didn't really pay for the Crucial sticks recommended on the Dual/Quad core page (used a gift certificate). I can't get anything under 512 samples w/o getting errors. I've done just about everything there is.

Did you adjust the timing of the RAM. You should be able to do a buffer of 64 with ease on a Q6600. Your system is practically identical to mine.

In bios you should see 1066 5-5-5-15. Even with the largest sessions with heavy VIs, plug-ins and audio voices you should seldom need to go above a 128 buffer.

The timing is most certainly set to 5-5-5-15 and the RAM is set to clock at 1066MHz. Still can't go beneath 512 Samples w/o getting serious CPU spikes (I AM using Plug Ins such as Kontakt using lots of Reverb, but my Dual Core Laptop can handle 128 and 64 Samples Settings). All stock plugs on my Quad.
